This is a new fabric for us, and part of our efforts to be environmentally friendly.
You may not have heard of Ramie – or you may not know what fibre it is.
Ramie is a fabric from a nettle plant (China grass) that is similar to linen but is typically stronger.
It has a natural sheen, and is more resistant to wrinkles and bacteria.
Linen is made from the flax plant, known for softening significantly with washing and having less sheen.
Both are natural, breathable, and absorbent plant-based fibers that are excellent for in all weathers, keeping you cool and comfortable in summer, but warm in winter.
We have chosen two rich colours that will work perfectly at transitional times of the year.
The fabric would make dresses or pinafores, skirts or trousers, shirts and jackets.
It has all the advantages of linen and has a lovely drape, while being less prone to creasing.
This is the Fire Brick colour – a beautiful rusty orange.
