This is bamboo, another new fabric for us.
If you have bought anything made with bamboo (our wadding, some socks) you will know how deliciously soft it is.
It has some environmental advantages over cotton too.
Overall, it has superior softness, moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating, and hypoallergenic properties, along with its greater sustainability as a fast-growing, pesticide-free resource.
Good quality bamboo is also very durability, and we only buy the best quality to bring to your sewing.
Here it s combined with a small amount of cotton, so you have the best of both fibres, and spandex for stretch without going baggy.
This fabric is a fleece. It has a slight stretch, and is softer than you would believe. And not too thick, but will be warm.
You must come in and feel it – or ask for a sample.
It has a regular stretch jersey appearance on one side, and a fleece on the other.
It could be sewn with either side as the ‘right side’, although you may prefer the fleece against the skin.
I immediately thought of children’s clothes – a pair of trousers made in this fabric for a baby just crawling would be so soft and protect their knees.
But why should the children have all the fun?
This would be wonderful in sweatshirts and tops, as casual trousers, leisure or sports wear, a pinafore dress, a jacket, or much more.
I am having trouble deciding what I will make first!
I am also having trouble deciding on the colour to choose!
This is Kumquat – a vibrant tangerine colour. We also have a soft green (Pistachio) and a teal (Peacock).
