Getting a sewing machine can be daunting.
Even threading it can be overwhelming and you may be afraid of breaking or doing something wrong.
This day-long workshop will help you overcome those fears and gain confidence as we gently explore together.
We will look at how to thread, and how to care for and clean your machine to keep it in top condition.
Then we can start to sew – first a straight seam with a standard foot, and look at basic adjustments to stitch length and how this will affect your stitch.
We will then move on to try other stitches, depending on the make and model of your machine, and discuss when and where you might use them.
You will end the day by making a small project such as a drawstring bag, or cushion cover.
You will go home with increased knowledge, full of confidence, and a head full of ideas for future makes.
You can bring your own machine, or borrow one of ours to practise on.
Everything else that you need will be provided, although you may prefer to bring your own basic sewing kit of pins and small scissors or snips.
