Julia, one of our Co-operative members, is also a professional bag maker.
Under the brand of @thebobbincase, her bags are sold in galleries across the UK and online.
You may have seen her wonderful Harris Tweed bags for sale in Gallery12, the shop next door to the Corner Patch!
Now she is going to share some of her skills with us in a workshop.
Julia says ‘make a boiled wool (or similar weight fabric) bag with me.
You will learn how to make a bag with gussets, a flap with a magnetic snap fastener, fully lined and with handmade handles.’
If you have used our lovely boiled wool to make a coat or jacket (See Sewing with Boiled Wool Workshop if not), then you could make a matching bag, or choose a contrast colour and make a eye-catching combination.
Julia will also give ideas for modifications that you may want to add if you want to make a slightly different bag at home afterwards.
Full information on materials etc. will be sent out in advance of the course.
Julia has slightly changed these sessions in light of feedback from students.
The workshop will now comprise two shorter sessions, each of four hours, held over two days.
This will enable students to finish their bag comfortable in the workshop, without feeling rushed.
